What is H.E.A.R.T.?
“H.E.A.R.T. Pet Programs, Inc. was formed to address the growing
local requests for human/animal therapy programs having
therapeutic, educational or recreational goals.”
We are a group of volunteers who are dedicated to helping others
while spending quality time with our animals, usually dogs but
we have had cats and bunnies be successful.
What do we mean by Human-Animal Educational and Recreational
Therapy?
What do we mean by Human-Animal Educational and Recreational Therapy?
People develop based on relationships with
others. Bringing animals and humans together creates the
opportunity for this unique relationship to be utilized as a
catalyst for reaching therapeutic goals (AAT). Even when the
goals are not documented, animals have a unique ability to
create an environment that is intrinsically therapeutic and
beneficial in socialization, recreation and in a reduction of
stress (AAA).
In addition, animals can teach us in many
ways about our own characters with their organic acceptance,
lack of judgment as well as ability to be in the present moment.
"When we give animals the opportunity,
they can reach into our painful, hurt places and mend and
soothe. The ways of animals and how they heal us are mysterious,
but stories I have heard over the years convince me beyond a
doubt that animals are some of the most accomplished and
accessible healers we may ever meet."
